Sessions

Session One:
Recapture Our Spiritual Heritage

Starter: Get into small groups and invent a country. You can make it be any time in history, any location, any size, any form of government, religion, people, resources, etc. You have 10-15 minutes. Review each group’s work.

Presentation:
A few stories from our history showing God’s intervention (Bullet-proof George Washington, Mayflower and Squanto, etc.)
Founders were able to invent a nation from scratch under the best of conditions.
Quotes from the Founders, their education, world view and associations.
How the Bible was used in our founding.
Separation of Church and State.
Nearly all of the early colleges were founded by Christians.
Christian statements in Colonial Charters and State Constitutions.
Other evidences of how our nation has deep Christian roots and why it’s important to know.

Assignment: 1.) Read “Winning the 21st Century.”
2.)How and why did our country stray from its spiritual roots?
3.)Name at least three new insights you’ve gained and why they are important.
4.)Name one thing you will change or do differently as a result of these insights.
5.)How would you like to see your church to be salt and light in the community, the nation and/or world? Name some specific ways.

Session Two:
Revive Our Hearts, Our Church and Our Nation

Starter: How would you revive a church or organization that has fallen to a minimum of activity, funding and involvement?

Presentation:
What does revival mean?
History of American revivals.
Current cultural and spiritual conditions. Has prayer been replace by technology and abundance?
What does personal revival look like?
Find your gifts, your passion and dedicate them to God’s use and glory.

Assignment: On paper: What changes do you need to make in your thinking?
What changes do you need to make in your lifestyle?
What changes do you need to make regarding your time, talent and treasure?
What might a revival in your church look like (assuming that is a desire)?
What ways might your church use its resources to win the 21st century?

Session Three:
Restore Our Resources to God’s Ownership

Starter: What would you do if money were not an issue? How would you live? What would you like to accomplish? (As a church and/or as an individual/family)

Presentation:
Principles of stewardship (includes time, talent and treasure).
Stewardship evaluation.
Practical plan for giving.
How God uses money.
Scriptures include Deut. 8:18; Ps. 24:1; 50:10; Mal. 3:7-10; Mt. 23:23; Lk. 12:48b; I Tim. 6:17-19

Assignment: Put together a plan to carry out over the next year or so–for yourself and/or your church. For example, regarding tithing on your income, you could look at increasing 1% per year until you reach 10%. What kind of ministry/outreach do you want your church to have? (building, programs, outreach, overseas, humanitarian)

Session Four:
Re-up to Win the 21st Century

Starter: It’s 2013. What do you want to look back and see has happened over the last five years? (small groups)

Presentation:
Review plans and adjust.
Create a network of accountability.
Would a strategic planning process help? Develop Vision and Mission statements.
We need to go on the offensive (Mt. 16:18; Rom. 8:31-39; Col. 1:15-20).
How we know we can win the 21st century.

Assignment: Schedule a commissioning service to dedicate the church and/or those that will pursue this mission.
